New Construction Highlights

Heritage Ranch, a master plan community in Sherman, Texas, features commercial, retail, and entertainment space across 440 vibrant acres. Sherman ISD Announces Major Updates: Stadium and School Developments on the Horizon

Sherman ISD is moving forward with significant projects aimed at enhancing educational and extracurricular opportunities for students, while addressing the needs of a rapidly growing community. From a new multipurpose stadium to innovative elementary schools, these updates highlight a commitment to progress and excellence.

A State-of-the-Art Multipurpose Stadium

Sherman ISD is advancing plans to construct an 8,000-seat multipurpose stadium at Sherman High School. Approved by the Board of Trustees, the project has a guaranteed maximum price for construction, with CORE Construction as the general contractor.

Work will begin this winter, with the stadium slated for completion by early summer 2026. This timeline is three years ahead of the original 2029 estimate shared with voters during the 2023 bond election.

“This stadium will better meet the immediate and future needs of our growing athletics and fine arts programs as it becomes a great source of pride for our community,” said Superintendent Dr. Thomas O’Neal.

The facility is designed to support student-athletes, coaches, and fans, while serving as a community landmark for Sherman’s thriving extracurricular programs.

New Elementary School in Heritage Ranch

In northwest Sherman, Sherman ISD will build its newest elementary school on 22.55 acres of land generously donated by Covenant Development. The school will be located in the Heritage Ranch master-planned community, which is set to include over 750 single-family homes, along with commercial, retail, and entertainment spaces.

Set to open for the 2025-26 school year, the school will accommodate more than 700 students in grades K-5. Its name will be determined by the district at a later date.

Ryan Johnson, president of Covenant Development, emphasized the partnership’s benefits, noting, “The convenience and proximity of a new school will be a draw and attractive amenity for families moving to or relocating in the Sherman area.”

Revitalizing Existing Campuses

Construction is underway to replace Crutchfield and Fairview Elementary Schools, while a new elementary school joins the roster. These projects stem from community-driven planning sessions and the district’s 2023 bond program.

Both Crutchfield and Fairview will remain operational during construction, ensuring continuity for students and staff. The new campuses are scheduled to open in August 2025.

Sherman High School Expansions

In addition to the stadium, Sherman High School is undergoing a 33,000-square-foot expansion. Two three-story additions are being built, adding 20 classrooms and increasing the school’s capacity by approximately 525 students. The project, expected to take 13 months, reflects the district’s proactive response to anticipated enrollment growth.

From enhanced athletic spaces to innovative learning environments, these initiatives underscore the district’s commitment to meeting the needs of a growing Sherman.
